| 29-Jan-2013 | Good | This was my first foray in buying cotton shirts from the internet, so I ordered shirts from Charles Tyrwhitt, T Lewin, and The Savile Row Company. These are my thoughts for what they are worth.
I chose 2 fold white poplin in all cases, classic or regular fit with a 17in collar and as close to 37in double cuff sleeves. The best cloth in my opinion was from T Lewin, smooth and luxurious. However their regular cut is a bit on the slim side, and I felt constrained. Also the shirt could have done by being a bit longer cut. Saville Row cotton was good but not with the sheen that the TLewin had. Their cut was the most generous, particularly around the tummy area, which most of us "regulars" need. (One annoying style que that I didn't like was the round cut to their cuffs, rather than the square cut for the others). Now back to the C. Tyrwhitt shirt. The cut is somewhere in the middle between the other two. Not as generous as the Saville Row, but much better than the T. Lewin. The cotton is good rathen than excellent. It should give a couple of years good service without a problem. I have kept both the shirts poplin and pinpoint that I bought as the best compromise I found between fit, quality and service. I just wish that the shirt was slightly more generous around the waist and armpit areas, and a little longer. We are talking approx an inch to inch and a half. That would be the a perfect fit. Until then I will have to buy the 17.5 inch collar rather than the 17 inch, as the bigger size also gives a slightly more roomier shirt. Oh the other nice touch I found in the Saville Row shirt, was the option of a free pocket, and embroiderer logo with size rather than a sewn label. | |
