How to measure yourself for a shirt

When picking out a shirt one must be mindful of several things, so that the shirt purchased is wholly suited to your proportions . From collar size to sleeve length, Nick Wheeler talks you through the process to follow in order to buy that perfect Charles Tyrwhitt shirt.

Collar

Measure around your neck with a clothing tape measure - ask someone to give you a hand for the most accurate result. Add half an inch to the result to ensure a comfortable collar fit.

Sleeve

Measure from the centre of the split yoke (the horizontal seam that runs down from the collar of all Charles Tyrwhitt formal shirts) to the elbow, running the tape measure along the outside of the shoulder. Then extend the tape measure from the elbow to where the sleeve should end (the ideal sleeve should end just after your suit sleeve). Always bend the elbow when measuring.
