Be cool with cufflinks

Buttons are useful, for sure, but if you really want to exude class, attach your shirt sleeves together with a pair of cufflinks. These three stylish gents wouldn't be without them

Be cool with cufflinks

  • 1. Frank Sinatra

The king of the Rat Pack and perhaps the most stylish crooner ever to walk the earth knew how to dress with a swagger. He had that rare ability to exude cool confidence whether performing in a freshly-pressed dinner jacket or propped up at the bar late in the night, tie hanging loosely, cufflinks glistening and hat tipped to one side, having drunk enough whisky to kill a buffalo, let alone throw a classy one-liners around.

  • 2. James Bond

Imagine being able to avert nuclear Armageddon, defeat heavily-armed foes on a variety of speeding vehicles, regularly saving the planet from deranged megalomaniacs intent on world domination, and still emerge looking sharp enough to attend the ambassador's reception with a beautiful double-agent. That's the lot of James Bond, perhaps the coolest civil servant ever to be employed by Her Majesty - well, the only cool civil servant ever to be employed by Her Majesty. Best of all his cufflinks probably double up as homing devices or mini-explosives.

  • 3. The Godfather

Italy, now there's a nation that enjoys a classically cut suit, polished shoes, elegant cufflinks and, to top it off, a jaunty trilby. And no one wore them better than mob boss Vito Corleone (Marlon Brando) in the film The Godfather. Of course it rather ruins the the air of effortless grace and sophistication that comes with a tailored two-piece if you're gunned down in the street.
