Wherever you stand in on his policies there's no arguing that Mr Obama has a whole lot of style. And that's not just in his slickly polished presentation skills. The sharp-dressed man of American politics turned heads with his fashion sense during the run-up to the election. Obama exudes the kind of cool, classic style that made actress Halle Berry go giddy. "I love his suits," she gushed. "I'd vote for his suits."

"Obama's dark suits, white shirts and simple ties have helped maintain his calm, steady image," says fashion journalist Charlie Porter. "His consistency of style brings with it a consistency of message."

Obama cleverly walks a stylistic tightrope, traditional enough not to threaten conservative voters with well-cut single breasted suits, but with enough attention to fine detail - the barrel cuffs, the dimple in the knot of his blue silk tie - to attract a younger stylish voter.

1. Care as much about the shirt as the suit - Obama has been able to shed his tailoring yet still look smart because his white shirts always look so neat and sharp.

2. Perfect a constant grooming regime. If your hair looks best clipped, maintain it to a regular length.

3. Work on yourself as well as your wardrobe - Obama's trim frame and obvious fitness is as important to his image as his clothing.
